Jenna Murray, NICU Nurse
Robert H and Anne Lurie Children’s Hospital
Nominated by Nicole Franklin
Jenna was with us from Day 1. Lindsey Jean was a 29 weeker that was born at another hospital. She was immediately transported to Robert H and Anne Lurie Children Hospital where Jenna became her primary nurse. Jenna made sure that my husband and I understood all that was going on medically. Lindsey suffered from low birth weight, brain bleed, oral dysphasia and acid reflux. She was Lindsey’s advocate and made sure the doctors were offering the best care for Lindsey. Our daughter spent 81 days in the NICU. It was emotionally draining. Jenna made sure we took part in Lindsey’s care. When we were nervous and scared, she let us know it was okay and normal. She continued to educate us and supported us until we were comfortable.
Lindsey was never able to orally feed while in the NICU. Jenna was patient with us as we had to learn how to operate a feeding pump and take care of/insert the NG Tube. Her teaching style and reassurance gave us confidence when we were preparing to be discharged. Even after leaving, Jenna and our family have remained in contact. She was not only there for our daughter, but for my husband and I as well. Knowing she was with our daughter reduced our anxiety. She was amazing and helped us get through the most difficult 81 days of our lives.
