“At a time when we couldn’t help but think “it was all supposed to be more beautiful than this”, the Jackson Chance Foundation showed us beauty, light, and love. That may sound like a lot, but that’s because it was a lot.
Our hearts had been cracked open by the unexpected early arrival of our baby. He wasn’t well, and as much as we wanted to be overwhelmed with happiness at the birth of our son, the set of circumstances we found ourselves in left us simply overwhelmed. We were told he would likely be in the NICU until around his due date, five weeks from what was then day two in the NICU. Then, we were told about what the Jackson Chance Foundation was going to do for us for that length of time – they were going to pay for our parking every single day, for 24 hours a day, so that all of our focus, all of our time, and all of our energy could be just for Leo.
It’s hard to fully express it here, but what they did for us was so much more than cover the cost of parking. When someone shows up for you in your darkest and most painful moments, there’s a different depth of beauty that you just can’t experience when everything feels okay. I hope sharing our story encourages you to join us in giving this gift of beauty, light, and love to other families who find themselves in the NICU.”
