Laurin Ferguson, NICU Nurse
Northwestern Prentice Women’s Hospital
Nominated by Rochelle Edens
Laurin was one of Evan’s primary nurses at Prentice. Laurin deserves the Owl award because she is a superwoman and because I truly believe she cared for my son Evan as if he was one of her own. Laurin was pregnant while she was Evan’s primary nurse. As a NICU mom, that can be uncomfortable; it’s hard not to compare your situation to others and get caught up in self-pity. However, with Laurin it was never uncomfortable because she showed genuine concern for my whole family. She went out of her way to comfort me when I was having a difficult time like when we held a memorial service for Evan’s twin brother. She bought Evan’s older brother a book that he absolutely loves! She never missed a detail in Evan’s care; often asking me if I thought he was fussy or not doing well. Laurin was Evan’s first advocate and continues to be one of my ‘trusted advisors’ for his ongoing care. She did all these things despite working long hours, being pregnant, in school and having a family of her own. She made the extra effort despite her plate being completely full. She’s truly a superwoman and a beautiful person.
