11th Annual Owl Give Award Nominee
Raeann Mondschean, NICU Nurse
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital
Nominated by Madesyn Ochotorena
"I cannot say enough about how wonderful a nurse Raeann is. Raeann and my daughter Veda connected immediately. When Raeann first took on Veda, she was very sick. Raeann saw Veda as more than diagnoses and nursing tasks. As a nurse myself, I feel as if I can really see all of the great qualities Raeann possesses as a healthcare provider. She is confident, observant, a great communicator, she thinks critically, and most of all she is deeply empathetic. She knew that both Veda and our family needed a consistent advocate in our lives. She made our stay feel normal, fun even. Raeann could make a simple bath feel like an elaborate spa day. She would give Veda pep talks throughout her shift. She believed in Veda and encouraged me when things felt like they would never change. I could take a nap or run errands and feel confident that Raeann would be there for Veda. Veda also found comfort in having Raeann, smiling at her and recognizing she was there. Most of all, at a time when I felt most out of control as a first-time parent, Raeann made me truly feel like a mom. I am forever thankful for her compassion and support. Any baby and family would be so lucky to have her as a nurse."
