11th Annual Owl Give Award Nominee
Andrea Caruso, Nurse Practitioner
Northwestern Prentice Women’s Hospital
Nominated by Taylor Murray
"Andrea exemplifies what it means to lead with compassion, always choosing to be a person first and a professional second. During some of the most difficult and emotional moments of our NICU journey, she delivered care with empathy, clarity, and deep understanding, ensuring we felt supported, heard, and cared for every step of the way. Her intelligence and ability to communicate complex information with kindness brought comfort during times of fear and uncertainty.
From the first hug during heartbreaking news to the moments she stepped in when I felt at my weakest, Andrea was a steady source of strength and reassurance. She truly helped pull me across the finish line when I didn’t think I had anything left to give during our final week in the NICU. She builds meaningful connections with the families she cares for, going far beyond expectations. Her warmth, dedication, and genuine care leave a lasting and powerful impact that extends well beyond the hospital.
What stands out most about Andrea is the care and intention she brings to her life outside of work. She is an incredible mother who does everything she can to give her children the best life possible, and I feel so grateful to have seen a glimpse of that through our daily conversations. With over 18 years of experience as a bedside NICU nurse and now as a nurse practitioner, Andrea has supported families through every stage of the NICU journey. She is beyond deserving of this recognition.
