11th Annual Owl Give Award Nominee

Gabriella Nardulli, NICU Nurse
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital
Nominated by Kaylee Zeilenga

"Gabriella was one of Lyla’s primary nurses during her time in the NICU, and her impact on our family went far beyond the care she provided at the bedside. Our daughter Lyla was born at just 25 weeks, weighing only 1 lb 4 oz, and what followed was a long and challenging journey. She was later diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) at 35 weeks and spent a total of 190 days in the NICU.

During one of the most overwhelming and emotional seasons of our lives, Gab became a steady source of comfort, strength, and light. From the very beginning, she took the time to answer every question we had with patience and kindness. No matter how small or complex our concerns were, Gab made sure we felt informed, included, and confident in Lyla’s care. She didn’t just care for our daughter—she advocated for her, communicating thoughtfully with the medical team and ensuring Lyla’s needs were always prioritized.

What made Gabriella truly exceptional was the way she cared for our entire family. She recognized that a NICU stay affects more than just the patient, and she supported us just as intentionally as she cared for Lyla. She formed a genuine connection with us, offering encouragement, reassurance, and even moments of laughter when we needed them most. Gab brought joy into an environment that can often feel heavy and uncertain. She played with Lyla, interacted with her in such a loving way, and celebrated even the smallest milestones alongside us. She turned bath time into meaningful “spa days,” gently caring for Lyla in a way that made everything feel calm, peaceful, and almost normal in a place that often didn’t feel that way. Those moments gave us something to look forward to—they brought a sense of comfort and joy when we needed it most.

Gab was also always excited to do little photo shoots with Lyla, helping us capture beautiful, joyful memories during a time that could have easily been overshadowed by fear. Because of her, we have moments frozen in time that remind us not just of how hard that season was, but how much love and light existed within it. Seeing Lyla smile in Gab’s care meant everything—it gave us hope and reminded us that brighter days were ahead.

More than a nurse, Gabriella became a friend and a source of emotional support during a time when we needed it most. Her compassion, dedication, and ability to truly see and support NICU families embody the mission of the Jackson Chance Foundation.

Because of Gab, our NICU experience was filled with more comfort, connection, and hope than we could have imagined. We are forever grateful for the love and care she gave to Lyla and our family. She will always hold a special place in our hearts."
