Owl Give Award Nominees

Jennifer McGeehan, NICU Nurse
Northwestern Prentice Women’s Hospital
Nominated by Marlee Puljic

"We would like to nominate Jen for the OwlGive Award because she had a profound impact on our family during an incredibly challenging time. Jen was the primary nurse for our premature twins during their 2.5-month NICU stay, and from the very beginning, she became so much more than a nurse to us. She was a steady presence, a confidant, and a true shoulder to lean on throughout our journey.

Whenever we walked into the NICU and saw Jen on shift, we immediately felt a sense of peace knowing our babies were in the best possible hands. Her care was not only exceptional but also deeply personal - she always had the girls’ best interests at heart and never missed a beat when it came to their needs. She made sure we were kept up to date if we couldn’t be there in person, and she was just a phone call away with thoughtful, thorough updates that gave us so much comfort.

Jen went above and beyond her role in countless ways. During family meetings with the care team, she was always present and engaged, even dialing in on her days off to make sure our voices were heard and that we had her perspective and support. Her commitment to our family was unwavering. When the long-awaited day came for our twins to be discharged, Jen came to the hospital, on her day off, just to send us off with encouragement and love. Even after we left the NICU, she has continued to check in on the girls, a testament to the bond she formed with us.

What makes Jen so deserving of this recognition is not only her clinical excellence, but also her humanity. She respected our feelings, supported us in moments of doubt, and celebrated every milestone with us. Over time, she came to feel like a friend we grew to love and trust just as deeply as she cared for our daughters.

We will forever be grateful to Jen for the extraordinary care, compassion, and dedication she gave to our family. She made one of the hardest chapters of our lives a little lighter and a lot more hopeful. Jen is the embodiment of what this award represents, and we can think of no one more deserving.”
