"I have had the privilege of working alongside Julie for the past 3.5 years. Julie brings her positive energy to work every single day. She has an incredible gift for seeing the best in everyone and every family she works with. I have watched her go above and beyond to advocate for families, even when obstacles stood in her way. When she cares for patients whose families cannot visit often, she makes it her mission to be a constant, comforting presence.
Julie supports both the babies and their families. She is a sounding board for parents to share their fears, worries, and anxieties. She takes the time to truly know each family, celebrating their wins and offering a compassionate ear through their losses. She radiates empathy and understanding, and I have seen her become a source of strength for families on the hardest days of their lives.
For example, when a patient with a life-limiting genetic condition reached her 6-month birthday, her parents wanted to celebrate her life with a party. Julie happily dressed up as a narwhal to help make the day as joyful and meaningful as the family imagined. That’s who she is—always meeting parents exactly where they are, whether that means holding their hands in hard conversations, crying with them when hope feels lost, or finding creative ways to bring them joy.
Julie is not just a social worker to her patients and families, but also a friend. I am grateful to call her my friend as well. She has been a steady support to me and many other team members—helping us process, problem-solve, and even proofreading when we need a second set of eyes. I can always count on her thoughtful feedback and her compassion in times of doubt, sadness, or frustration.
Julie is an amazing teammate and social worker. I learn from her every day, and the families on 14N are truly lucky to have her. Go BLUE, my favorite Michigander!”
